Abhishek Chaubeys directorial ‘Udta Punjab‘ is once again embroiled in a controversy. Months after its release the movie has been hit by plagiarism allegations. A media report has stated that ‘High Society’ a novel by Ben Elton is a possible inspiration for the film.
A shocked Anurag Kashyap who had fought a long and hard battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) said, “I don’t have anything to say. If they were in any way inspired by the book, which only they know, they have done a damn good job in the writing of the script. Because the film that I read and I saw, seemed very very rooted in the land.”
The writer of the movie admitted that he has read the book but it was Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Traffic’ and a Tehelka article that inspired him to write the story.
