‘Kahaani 2’ movie review: Vidya Balan stands out in this mysterious thriller, but concept isn’t spectacular

Kahaani 2

Cast: Vidya Balan, Arjun Rampal

Directed By: Sujoy Ghosh

Produced By: Sujoy Ghosh, Jayantilal Gada

Rating: ★★★

Kahaani 2‘ is nowhere related to the first part as it delves into a fresh story with fresh characters. The story revolves around a mother Vidya Sinha who is leading a normal life with her daughter Mini Sinha. But, their normal life is not for long as Vidya’s little daughter gets kidnapped and if this wasn’t enough, then Vidya herself meets with a major accident that results in a traumatic brain injury. Sub-inspector Inderjeet Singh (played by Arjun Rampal) is a cop to resolve this case and he uncovers that Vidya’s name is Durga Rani Singh who is a criminal wanted on charges of kidnapping and murder. What’s Vidya’s real idenity? Is she a murderer or an innocent woman being framed? Will she be able to rescue her daughter? You will find the answere to these questions when you watch the movie.

  • The first half of the movie is fabulous and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Your expectations from the movie increase tenfold, but the second half stumbles along the way. Vidya Balan is back with a bang and she delivers a knockout performance while Arjun Rampal is good enough in his role of a dashing cop. Tapan Basu’s cinematography is amazing. We had expected a better ending and that’s where the film lacks. But, the great performances and Sujoy Ghosh’s direction will definitely want you to give it a watch.
