The solo release of the week, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ made Rs 15 crore on its opening day. And after looking at the numbers, the movie was expected to do well on the weekend. But unfortunately, this Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer saw a drop by 5% on Saturday and its business was that of Rs 14.25 crore yesterday. So the combined collection of these two days is that of Rs 28.25 crore nett.
Looking at how good the promotions of the movie were done and the hype that was created, the numbers don’t look good. The predictions of the first three days was that of Rs 50 crores, but going by the performance and the drop, this collection seems unlikely now. It is usually noticed that big budget films see a hike in collections on the second day, but for some odd reasons, this movie has taken a toll on the second day. This is majorly because of the bad footfall and critic reviews that are pouring in. This doesn’t look like a smooth road for the movie at the box office.
Since the film has an added advantage of the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday, we expect it to score a little. But with the drop on Saturday, the scope looks little. The numbers are seen low almost everywhere except for Mumbai, Delhi, Pun, NCR and Bangalore. This time, even Kolkata saw a drop of numbers. The maximum numbers are pouring in from Mysore.
This happens to the first time that a Shah Rukh Khan film will see below Rs 50 crore mark for the weekend after ‘Don 2’ which released in 2011. Even his movie ‘Fan’ had managed to make Rs 52 crore nett plus. So it is really disappointing to see this score since we had high hopes out of this movie. We now only have to wait and watch the collection that it makes on Sunday and Monday.
