‘Rock On 2’ movie review: The ‘Rock On’ trio is back with a bang

Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli

Director: Shujaat Saudagar

Rating: ★★★

Farhan Akhtar is back with the sequel to his hit flick ‘Rock On’. The sequel ‘Rock On 2’ stars Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Purab Kohli. The makers have picked up the reigns from where the first one ended. The magic of ‘Rock On’ that was expected by the fans in the sequel is evident.

Farhan Akhtar is back as the lead singer Aditya Shroff. But somewhere down the line, he has turned into a guilt filled tortured soul. He has given up on music because he blames himself for a suicide of a young man. His friends try their best to bring him back to the world of the living. But he seems to have another way of dealing with the guilt. He turns a philanthropist working for the benefits of a village in the North East.

Arjun Rampal has become an owner of a club and also a celebrity judge on a singing reality show. He is no longer a down to earth singer but an arrogant club owner.

A new entrant Shraddha Kapoor is depicting the role of an aspiring singer Jiah Sharma. She is fighting her inner devils courtesy her conservative father. She does well in a few scenes but is unable to do justice to a character dealing with a grave tragedy.

Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Prachi Desai and Shashank Arora pack in decent performances. The chemistry shared by them is as good as it was in the prequel. The cinematographer Marc Koninckx’s has captured the beauty of the North East majestically. It makes us wish to pack our bags and head to the hills.

The script is weak though. The movie that is touted as a musical, doesn’t hand out an outstanding musical score. Some of the songs are forced into the narrative. The best of the lot is Vishal Dadlani and Usha Uthup’s performance.

A must for ‘Rock On’fans .
