Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker made a comeback to acting after 18 long years. He marked his comeback with Priyanka Chopra’s home production ‘Ventilator’, but the director says he had not intention of making an acting comeback and the director of the movie Rajesh Mapuskar persuaded him.
Speaking to a web portal, Mr Gowariker said, “I am coming on-screen after 18 years as an actor. There is a lot of expectation and I hope people accept me once again. I had no intention of becoming an actor again. I was busy with film direction. When Rajesh Mapuskar came to me I told him I won’t be able to do it because I was busy working on ‘Mohenjo Daro’ and it will take time. He seemed to be okay and waited for me for six months. He persuaded me and then finally I came on board for the film.”
For those unknown, Gowariker had started off as an actor in 1984 with the movie ‘Holi’. Then, he was seen in movies like ‘Chamatkar’, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, ‘Naam’ and also made appearances in TV shows like ‘CID’ and ‘Comedy Circus’. The filmmaker is now open to acting offers, provided the script is good. He said, “As of now there are no acting offers, if anything interesting comes up then I shall take it.” He also spoke about his next venture as a director saying, “I am scripting something right now and it should be ready in few months.”
His comeback as an actor indeed proved fruitful as the movie has been garnering praises.
