Om Puri apologises for comments on army

Bollywood’s veteran actor Om Puri has apologised for his comments on Indian Army. The actor is facing sedition charges for his insulting comments on Indian soldiers. He was heard quoting that he is guilty and should be punished for it.

Om Puri was participating in a debate, that was on Hindi film producers’ ban on Pakistani actors after the URI attacks. The actor was heard saying, “Did anybody force them (the soldiers) to join the army?” on National Television. He soon had to face the consequences of his insulting remarks towards the Martyrs.

Celebrities from all walks of life along with the Twitterati lashed out at him. A complaint was filed against him by a lawyer for his alleged insulting comment on Indian soldiers during a news channel debate.

Speaking to the media Puri said, “I am very embarrassed at what I said and I deserve punishment, not forgiveness. I first apologise to his (an Uri attack martyr) family, if at all they will forgive me, I apologise to the whole country, the army. I know it’s not justified that you say so much and then think a sorry will make it right.”

He further added,“I am guilty and I deserve a punishment. I want to be tried by the army, I should be court-martialled. I want a constructive punishment, The army should teach me how to use weapons and send me on the same site where that brave man was sacrificed himself for the country. I don’t want to be forgiven. I am pleading to the nation I want to be punished.”

Hope this was a sincere apology by the actor and not a ploy to promote his upcoming film ‘Gandhigiri’?
