Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s threat to Pakistani actors to leave the country within 48 hours, has led to the boycott of ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’in Pakistan. Yes, Pakistani distributors have decided not to release MS Dhoni biopic that stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the role of Captain Cool onscreen.
Sources said, “IMGC Global Entertainment, a Pakistan-based distribution company, has backed out of releasing the film in Pakistan. Amid current tension between the two countries, they have decided not to release the film.”
Sources further added that, “A petition was also filed at the Lahore High Court on September 23, which sought a ban on Indian films until the Kashmir issue is resolved. The PIL was filed by lawyer Azhar Siddique and mentioned showing Bollywood movies in Pakistan will hurt sentiments of the people in Pakistan and Kashmir.”
Maharastra Navnirman Sena that is led by Raj Thackeray had issued an ultimatum to Pakistan actors working in India to leave the country within 48 hours. This was done in the aftermath of Uri attack in which 18 Indian soldiers were killed. The party has even announced that films starring Pakistani actors will not be allowed to release in India. Topping the list were Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ that stars Fawad Khan and Rahul Dholakia’s ‘Raees’ that also stars Mahira Khan.
Pakistan being the third highest revenue generator for Pakistani films, the ban will affect the box-office collections of the Dhoni biopic.
