Farah Khan has shared a candid glimpse into the early days of her marriage with filmmaker Shirish Kunder, revealing that the couple faced several challenges in balancing their personal and professional lives. The filmmaker and choreographer admitted that the initial years were marked by frequent disagreements, mainly because Shirish felt uneasy attending social gatherings with her.

Farah explained that during public events, people would often approach her because of her popularity in the film industry, while ignoring Shirish. “The world is full of a*, so they will always focus on the person who is more successful at that point. They would only talk to me and ignore my husband. I didn’t like that, and neither did he,” she said during her conversation with Sania Mirza on her podcast Serving It Up With Sania. Eventually, the couple decided that Shirish should skip events that made him uncomfortable. “I want him to be happy and at peace,” she added.
Recalling those early arguments, Farah said she used to insist that Shirish accompany her despite his discomfort, which led to several fights. Over time, both learned to respect each other’s space and found balance by focusing on their happiness instead of social appearances.
Farah also shared her perspective on keeping their marriage low-key, saying, “We know we are secure in our marriage, and we don’t need to hold hands on the red carpet. Sometimes, I feel the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something is brewing.”
Farah and Shirish met when he edited her directorial debut, Main Hoon Na and married in 2004. They are parents to triplets—Diva, Anya, and Czar. The couple has collaborated on several films, and Farah continues to shine as a filmmaker, TV personality, and digital creator.
